Online Northwest is a one-day conference focused on the intersection of libraries and technology and how to best take advantage of the strengths of both of those cultural institutions. There are hour-long presentations throughout the day as well as five-minute “lightning talks” that are meant to give conference attendees a brief preview of an exciting new topic or project. I proposed a lightning talk based on a new theory of collection development commonly referred to as “just-in-time” collection development entitled “What you want, baby we’ve got it? Demand-driven acquisitions and e-books”. This lightning talk was accompanied by 20 slides that were automatically advanced every 15 seconds. In the process of research, writing, and presenting this talk, I learned about how to find and implement the most current research and engaged in the process of identifying and interviewing professionals in the field of collection development. Because of the strict time constraints of this presentation, I am now able to succinctly distill information down to its cogent points, present the information in a visually pleasing manner, and engage in the professional LIS community through networking and sharing findings.
