This bibliography was the result of an assignment from my Organization of Information class, taken in the spring of 2011. Organization of Information acted as an introduction to the many ways in which people have recorded and organized information in the past with a focus on current practices of organization. It also explored the societal issues that accompany classification and what it means that classification is at the core of librarianship. The theory base that I relied on during this assignment was that of user-centered indexing, or a type of indexing that relies on traditional indexing methods combined with social classification practices such as tagging. This theory is still fairly new, but was written about extensively by Krystyna K. Matusiak (2006). I discovered the theory of user-centered indexing fairly early in the process of creating an annotated bibliography on best practices for organizing the digitized images from costume collections and found that it informed many of the other resources that I ended up selected for this assignment. Due to the process of this assignment, I now consistently think about information as something to be packaged and repackaged for specific user groups and research situations and feel comfortable extrapolating theories for practical applications.
