This strategic plan was written during my Leadership and Administration of Information Organizations class in the fall of 2011. In the production of this plan, I focused on the theory base of strengths-based leadership, which is a psychology theory developed by Donald O. Clifton, Ph.D and continued by Tom Rath and Barry Conchie (2009). Simply put, strengths-based leadership states that by successfully identifying your unique personality strengths and the strengths of people on your team by taking a test, you will not only become a better leader, but also a better manager. This test will result in 34 specific strengths that are categorized into four larger categories of strength: executing, influencing, relationship building, and strategic thinking. This artifact is a two-year strategic plan that was developed by me and four classmates for the University of Oregon Portland Library and Learning Commons, a small, academic branch library in Portland, Ore where I worked as a student assistant at the time of writing the plan. Not only did I practice the creative thinking and analyzing of issues that are necessary when creating a short-term plan to meet specific objectives within a library, but I also engaged in fostering the strengths of my team members as they fostered my unique strengths. Thanks to the research, writing, and presentation of this strategic plan project, I can work more effectively within groups by identifying and encouraging the diverse strengths of individuals and have developed creative strategies for solving practical issues in libraries and information organizations.
